In the wake of Morocco’s deadliest earthquake in over 50 years, families in Marrakesh faced another night sleeping outside their homes, gripped by fear for their safety. The earthquake, which has claimed the lives of more than 2,000 people, left many residents uncertain about the condition of their homes or the possibility of aftershocks causing further damage.
The death toll is expected to rise significantly as many casualties are in critical condition, and emergency services struggle to reach remote mountainous villages that have been severely affected. To aid in the response efforts, the Moroccan army has been mobilized to assist emergency services in providing much-needed support.
In a display of international solidarity, foreign aid has been rushed to the country. Algeria opened its airspace for the first time in two years to facilitate flights carrying assistance. Additionally, countries like France, the US, Spain, Britain, and Germany have pledged to provide emergency aid to help Morocco cope with this devastating earthquake.
