Warning for UAE National Council Election Candidates: Avoid Early Campaigning or Face Dh10,000 Fine

Candidates getting ready for the National Council elections have received a firm reminder from the National Election Committee. They’ve been cautioned against launching their campaign efforts before September 11 – that’s a strict rule. The official campaign period will start on September 11 and stretch for 23 days until October 3.

The committee made it clear that any attempts to start campaigning before the set date would breach election rules. Penalties for such actions could be hefty, including covering expenses incurred, facing fines up to Dh10,000, and even having campaign permits revoked. In severe cases, a candidate’s name might be dropped from the final lists. The committee also stressed that campaigns are allowed only in specific locations, following outlined rules.

The Emirates Committees were highlighted for their crucial role in managing the election process in their respective emirates. They ensure smooth operations and adherence to guidelines. With the closure of objections to preliminary candidate lists, the stage is set for the announcement of the final candidate list on the upcoming Saturday, bringing us closer to the 2023 National Council elections.
