Dubai Police have successfully thwarted a major international drug trafficking operation, seizing an astonishing 86 million captagon pills valued at Dh3.77 billion. The operation, codenamed “Storm,” unfolded as officers received a tip-off regarding five containers suspected of carrying illicit drugs on a cargo ship. After the ship docked in Dubai, authorities swiftly inspected the containers but found no immediate cause for concern. However, a closer examination using x-ray scans revealed “unidentified particles” within the furniture items stored in the containers, each weighing up to 200kg. With the help of a police dog, officers confirmed the presence of drugs, leading to the painstaking process of meticulously opening doors and panels to unveil the concealed narcotic pills.
This monumental drug bust involved the arrest of six suspects linked to the smuggling operation. As part of their operation, Dubai Police ensured that officers were stationed at the port around the clock. One suspect was apprehended while attempting to clear three containers, while another was arrested when he arrived at the site where two containers were transported. Additional suspects were detained in various locations, including a warehouse in another emirate. Extracting the drugs from the furniture panels required several days of painstaking effort. The Dubai Police, determined to serve their country and with faith in their officers’ competence, managed to dismantle this elaborate drug smuggling scheme, safeguarding the nation from a significant threat.
