Simple Guide on Reporting & Registering a Death in the UAE

Dealing with the passing of a loved one is tough, but knowing how to navigate the necessary procedures is important. Here’s an easy breakdown of how to register a death in the UAE.

Step 1: Report the Death

If the death occurs outside a hospital, dial 999 to reach the police and inform them. They’ll create an initial death report and transfer the deceased to the government morgue. If the death happens in a hospital, the authorities there will take care of the initial report and morgue arrangements. The morgue will issue a death certificate declaration, which needs to be stamped by the police to get a no objection certificate (NOC). You might need separate NOCs for body release, embalming, or repatriation.

Step 2: Apply for a Death Certificate

With the police’s NOC in hand, head to the health authority in your emirate to apply for a death certificate. In Dubai, if the death occurred in a DHA hospital, you’ll get the certificate from the hospital. For deaths in private hospitals or at home, call the DHA hotline at 800 342, select your language, and press ‘2’ for health regulations. They’ll guide you on getting the death certificate.

Remember, during these tough times, there are procedures in place to guide you through.
