Dubai, known for its technological advancements, has revealed an extensive network of more than 23,600 free Wi-Fi spots that span across parks, beaches, malls, and various public spaces. These free internet access points serve both residents and visitors in the emirate, enhancing connectivity and convenience. This announcement coincides with the Dubai Digital Authority’s unveiling of its ambitious digital strategy aimed at furthering the emirate’s position as a global digital leader.
Over the past two decades, Dubai has made remarkable strides in its digital journey, marked by milestones such as its e-government initiative in 2000 and the Smart Government initiative in 2013. Notably, the emirate achieved its goal of a paperless government by the end of 2021. Digital transactions now constitute 87% of total government service transactions, with more than 120 government smartphone applications developed. The Dubai Digital Authority’s comprehensive roadmap encompasses seven key pillars, including Digital City, Data and Statistics, Cybersecurity, Digital Competitiveness, Digital Economy, Digital Talent, and Digital Infrastructure.
