Safer Roads Ahead: Doha’s Radar Cameras to Monitor Traffic Offences from September 27

Doha : Starting this week on September 27, radar cameras are set to play a pivotal role in keeping Doha’s roads safer. The cameras will be on the lookout for traffic offenses such as not wearing seat belts and using mobile phones while driving. While these new rules aim to encourage responsible driving, there’s also an important grace period to be aware of.

During the initial phase, which spans from September 27 to October 2, any drivers found not wearing seat belts or using mobile phones behind the wheel will receive a helpful warning. This means that during these days, no fines will be given out to those caught in the act.

However, once September 3 rolls around, the rules will become stricter. Violators will now be subject to fines for their actions. The penalty for breaking these regulations, such as not buckling up or using a mobile phone while driving, will be a fine of 500 Qatar Riyals.

The major of Traffic Awareness and Control Section at the Traffic Department, highlighted that even if your seat belt blends with your outfit, the radar cameras won’t miss a thing. They’ll spot any violations without fail. Notably, images of these violations can also be accessed via Metrash 2.

Mobile phone use during driving has been identified as a key factor contributing to accidents, which spurred this initiative. He emphasized the importance of taking action to prevent such incidents. He stressed that in the event of an accident, prioritizing safety by wearing seat belts is paramount.
