This summer, authorities in the UAE have taken action against employers who violated midday break rules, with more than 90 cases reported. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation conducted over 113,000 site inspections to ensure the safety of outdoor workers, identifying 96 breaches. The midday break policy, designed to protect workers from scorching summer temperatures, was in effect from June 15 to September 15, prohibiting outdoor work between 12:30 pm and 3:00 pm.
Authorities expressed their gratitude to both the private and public sectors, as well as members of the community, for their dedication to safeguarding workers. For nearly two decades, the UAE has enforced midday breaks, mandating that employers provide workers with essential amenities like umbrellas, cooling equipment such as fans, cold drinking water, authorized hydrating salts, and suitable facilities. Companies found in violation of these rules may face fines of up to Dh5,000 ($1,360) per worker, with a maximum penalty of Dh50,000.
