Starting today, a new law has been enacted in Kuwait that has a significant impact on residents’ visa renewal. Under this law, residents will be unable to renew their residence visas until they have cleared any outstanding debts to the state. This change, communicated by Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior on social media, is effective as of Sunday, September 10th, and is aimed at ensuring that residents settle their financial obligations to the government before renewing their visas.
The decision to implement this law stems from the directives of Acting Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Sheikh Talal Khalid Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, and is part of an effort to streamline debt collection processes. To renew their residency, individuals must promptly settle any debts owed through state agency websites or the “Sahl” application. The authorities have urged all residents to adhere to these legal provisions to maintain security and public order in the country, emphasizing the importance of responsible debt management when seeking visa renewals in Kuwait.
