UAE Gears Up for FNC Elections with 309 Candidates in the Running

The stage is set for the United Arab Emirates’ Federal National Council (FNC) elections, as the National Elections Committee (NEC) has given the green light to the final list of candidates. A total of 309 candidates, hailing from various emirates, will compete for a desire spot in the FNC. Abu Dhabi leads the pack with 118 candidates, followed by Dubai with 57, Sharjah with 50, Ajman with 21, Ras Al Khaimah with 34, Umm Al Quwain with 14, and Fujairah with 15 contenders.

This year’s FNC elections will determine 20 members, with four seats each allocated to Abu Dhabi and Dubai, while Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah will each have three representatives. Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, and Fujairah will each contribute two members to the council. The NEC, under the leadership of Abdul Rahman bin Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of State for FNC Affairs and Chairman of the NEC, is committed to ensuring the success of this crucial electoral process. Candidates have been reminded to adhere strictly to the rules and regulations outlined in the executive instructions for the 2023 FNC elections. Electoral campaigns are slated to begin on September 11 and will span 23 days, with the last day for candidate withdrawals set for September 26.
