Hold your breath for a truly magical moment in the UAE skies this Thursday – the appearance of a “Blue Supermoon.” What’s that, you ask? Well, it’s when a second full moon pops up in the same month, something that’s quite rare and why we say once in a blue moon. It’s not about the moon’s color though, it’s just a saying. This cool event happens about every 2.7 years, so it’s a bit of a special treat. We won’t see another one until May 31, 2026!
Starting around 7pm, you can spot the moon shining bright in the UAE, especially if you’re away from the city lights. The Dubai Astronomy Group has set up a cool event for everyone to enjoy this celestial show. They’ve got a special place called the Al Thuraya Astronomy Centre in Dubai’s Al Mushrif Park.
And that’s not all the sky’s got in store for us this month. Just recently, there was something called a “Saturn opposition,” where Saturn and the Sun kind of lined up across from each other in the night sky. This made Saturn super bright and its rings and moons were easy to spot. And get this – there’s even more! There’s talk of a comet named Comet Nishimura that might be visible next week. This comet was first seen by a regular guy named Hideo Nishimura from Japan. It’s expected to get even brighter as it gets closer to the Sun. You might not even need a telescope to see it, according to NASA. So, if you’re into looking up at the stars and planets, there’s plenty of excitement in store for you this month!
