Dubai is gearing up to tackle its traffic challenges with three significant road projects on the horizon. In recent months, the city has successfully completed major road enhancements, and now the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is focused on the next phase of development. These forthcoming projects promise to ease congestion and enhance transportation in the emirate.

First on the list is the expansion of Hessa Street, a 4.5-kilometer stretch from its intersection with Sheikh Zayed Road to Al Khail Road. This improvement aims to boost its capacity to accommodate up to 16,000 vehicles per hour. Similarly, Umm Suqeim Street will see enhancements over a 4.6-kilometer section, from its junction with Al Khail Road to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, also increasing its capacity to 16,000 vehicles per hour. Additionally, the Al Khaleej Street project, stretching 3 kilometers from the Infinity Bridge ramp to Cairo Street, will include the construction of three underpasses spanning 1.65 kilometers, with an estimated capacity of about 12,000 vehicles per hour.

These projects align with Dubai’s commitment to enhancing its road network and traffic safety. With the city’s road network length growing from 8,715 lane-kilometers in 2006 to 18,768 in 2022, marking a 115 percent growth, Dubai is positioning itself among the world’s top cities in terms of traffic safety and efficiency. According to the 2022 traffic index report by TomTom, Dubai’s central business district outperformed several global cities, reducing the average time needed to travel 10 kilometers to just 12 minutes, compared to an average of 21 minutes in other urban centers like Los Angeles, Montreal, Sydney, Berlin, Rome, and Milan. These road improvements underscore Dubai’s commitment to further enhancing the quality of life for its residents and visitors.
