Saudi Arabia is working on a strategy to empower women to serve female visitors at the holiest mosques in Mecca and Medina. This effort is part of a broader goal to promote moderate Islam and disseminate its message globally, according to a Saudi official.

Abdulrahman Al Sudais, the chief of the Religious Affairs Presidency of the Two Holy Mosques, emphasized that empowering women aligns with Islamic values and represents a religious, national, societal, and developmental responsibility. The strategy aims to highlight the important role of women in providing religious and awareness services to female worshippers and visitors at these holy sites.

In recent years, Saudi Arabia has taken significant steps to empower women, including appointing women to key roles at the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina. These efforts are part of broader changes in the kingdom to promote gender equality and inclusivity.
