As scorching temperatures continue to blanket the UAE, most companies have upheld their commitment to safeguarding workers’ well-being by adhering to the midday work ban. This regulation, now in its 19th year, requires employers to halt outdoor work under direct sunlight from 12.30pm to 3pm. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) revealed that only 59 violations have been recorded after conducting over 67,000 inspections.

The midday break scheme, which began on June 15 and runs until September 15, remains a cornerstone of the UAE’s efforts to ensure labor welfare. Employers are obligated to furnish shaded areas and cooling equipment, such as fans, to offer relief during rest periods. For businesses that fail to comply, the penalty stands at Dh5,000 per worker, with a maximum cap of Dh50,000 for multiple workers.

Mohsen Al Nassi, Assistant Undersecretary for Inspection Affairs at the ministry, highlighted that these proactive measures reflect the UAE’s dedication to protecting workers’ rights and bolstering occupational safety. The MoHRE has encouraged residents and workers to report any violations via its call center at 600590000 or through its app and website, underscoring the collaborative approach taken to ensure optimal workplace conditions.
